Feature Request: Historical Data for Delisted Stocks

siddharthn
Hi,

Thanks for all the work you folks put into the API — it's genuinely one of the better offerings available to retail traders today.

I wanted to request support for historical data (daily level is fine) for delisted stocks. If this is already in the pipeline for a future release, it would be great to hear about it. Otherwise, I’d strongly urge you to consider it.

Having this data would go a long way in helping traders build strategies without survivorship bias. Right now, it’s nearly impossible to backtest with confidence unless one pulls years of bhavcopy data and adjusts it manually for corporate actions — not exactly ideal, and certainly not beginner-friendly. To my knowledge, there aren’t any affordable services that offer this at scale either.

Hope this is something you’d be open to exploring. It would be a huge value-add for the community.

Thanks again!

Historical data is available only for actively trading contracts. You cannot retrieve historical data for delisted instruments through Kite Connect.

Hi @nagavenij. Thanks for getting back to me. I can see that it is not available currently. I was trying to start a conversation on whether the Kite Connect team is planning to make it possible for retrieving historical data in some future release. If it is not in the pipeline, I would urge you to consider adding this as it'd make it possible to do backtesting without survivorship bias.

Kite Connect is purely an execution platform. If you want data on unlisted instruments, you can contact any exchange-registered data vendor.
