Volume Zero for NIFTY Historical Data

Hi,
I get the volume as zero when i try to fetch the daily data for NIFTY symbols like:
NIFTY BANK
NIFTY 100
NIFTY 200
NIFTY 50

i am able to fetch the volume for all other symbols. Why?

Hi @beagle1977365,
All the above scrips are called indices. You can't trade indices whereas you can trade derivatives of indices.
If there are no trades happening on a scrip then you won't get volume traded.

I see. But pls see attached. This is the list of symbols that we need (we have taken this from the bhavcopy). What are the equivalent symbols in Zerodha? Can you help?

Nifty 50
Nifty 100
Nifty 200
Nifty Bank

Hi @beagle1977365,
This is not specific to zerodha. These are indices that are given by exchange.
Indices can't be traded on both NSE and BSE.

Kite Connect serves historical data based on instrument tokens. Check out documentation and you will get instrument token from instrument dump.
Instrument token for Nifty 50 is 256265.
