What is Kite Connect meant for?

According to kite.trade homepage:

Build full fledged trading platforms with our HTTP/JSON APIs

Is it only for building a different user interface to the one available on kite.zerodha.com or can it used to build some kind of analysis system, maybe Amibroker with less features?

I believe a step by step guide to build a sample system will help immensely. A system that combines various features so that user can know what can be done and how it can be done.

Kite Connect can be used to either develop your personal strategies, your custom trading platform or any kind of platform which involves buying and selling stocks or mutual funds.

You can check out API documentation.
Some of the platforms that are built using Kite Connect are smallcase and balance.
